What is Rubber Dam?

Rubber Dam is a thin cover made of a flexible plastic or rubber material used in dentistry. It is used to isolate the teeth during dental treatments, to create a dry environment and to provide a hygienic working environment. It contributes to more effective results by assisting dentists in detailed procedures such as root canal treatments, aesthetic fillings and teeth whitening.

What is Rubber Dam?

By isolating the area around the tooth from bacteria and saliva, Rubber Dam both increases the comfort of the patient and provides the dentist with a more detailed study.

How is Rubber Dam Applied?

It includes steps such as selecting the teeth determined in the application process, marking, drilling holes and fixing them to the teeth using metal holders. Obtaining a stretched cover by passing it into its special frame ensures that the area around the tooth is completely isolated.

After these steps, the dentist begins the planned treatment in an environment where Rubber Dam has been successfully applied. Rubber Dam provides a hygienic working environment by isolating the area around the tooth from external factors such as bacteria and saliva, which makes the treatment process more comfortable for patients.

In Which Procedures Is Rubber Dam Used?

Rubber Dam has a wide range of uses in dentistry applications. This special isolation material is successfully used in various dental procedures. It is especially preferred in the following procedures that require a detailed and hygienic working environment:

Root Canal Treatment: Rubber Dam provides a more effective work by isolating the area around the tooth during root canal treatment.

Aesthetic Fillings: In aesthetic filling applications, Rubber Dam offers the dentist a clear view and allows for a more controlled placement of the filling material.

Tooth Whitening: In teeth whitening procedures, Rubber Dam provides a successful whitening process by isolating the tooth surface from saliva and external factors.

Composite Fillings: In composite filling applications, Rubber Dam increases the durability of the filling by isolating the tooth periphery.

What are the Advantages of Using Rubber-Dam?

Rubber Dam is an important isolation material that offers various advantages in dentistry applications. The main advantages of using Rubber Dam:

  • Provides a more hygienic working environment by isolating the tooth environment from bacteria and saliva.
  • Controlling bacteria and microorganisms around the tooth reduces the risk of infection.
  • Rubber Dam provides a more comfortable experience by isolating the patient from external factors during treatment.
  • It helps to apply the material in a more controlled manner in procedures such as filling, composite applications and teeth whitening.
  • In aesthetic filling applications, Rubber Dam allows the dentist to focus on aesthetic details more precisely.

Why is Rubber Dam Used During Root Canal Treatment?

The use of Rubber Dam during root canal treatment isolates the area around the tooth from bacteria and saliva by creating a sterile environment. This allows the dentist to work in a more controlled manner and contributes to a clean procedure by preventing the materials used from spreading around the tooth.

At the same time, Rubber Dam prevents saliva from entering the procedure area, making the treatment process comfortable, which requires the patient to keep their mouth open. This isolation material reduces the risk of infection and increases the comfort of the dentist and patient during root canal treatment.
