What is Tooth Sensitivity?
Tooth sensitivity or dentine hypersensitivity is a common dental condition that can cause pain in the teeth in response to certain stimuli, such as hot or cold foods. While it can be a temporary or chronic problem, it can affect a single tooth or all teeth. While the causes can include many factors, it can be the result of worn tooth enamel or exposed tooth roots. In some cases
People who experience discomfort as a result of sensitive teeth are advised to visit a dentist. The dentist will determine the underlying cause of the pain and plan the appropriate treatment to eliminate these problems.
Why Tooth Sensitivity Occurs
The causes of tooth sensitivity can include gum disease, hard brushing, teeth grinding during sleep, frequent consumption of acidic foods and beverages, and certain habits. These conditions can lead to tooth enamel erosion and hypersensitivity of the teeth.
If gum diseases are left untreated, there may be a decrease in the level of gum and bone tissue, while the root surface is exposed. Hard brushing of the teeth may further erode the root surface and sensitivity may develop.
Tooth decay, broken teeth or worn fillings can cause sensitivity. In these cases, sensitivity may not usually occur in most of the teeth, but only in a particular tooth or an area of the mouth.
After procedures such as fillings, veneers or teeth whitening, there is a temporary sensitivity in the teeth. This sensitivity usually occurs in the intervened area and disturbs the person for a short time.
What Can Be Done for Tooth Sensitivity?
Tooth sensitivity is a sensation of aching in the teeth during the consumption of cold or hot foods. It negatively affects the quality of life by causing the person to be constantly alert during meals.
There are many different methods of treating tooth sensitivity. These methods aim to close the opening in the dentinal tubules that cause and contribute to tooth sensitivity. There is no single treatment method that works for everyone. Treatment may differ from person to person.
